Algeria commemorates revolutionary history and national anthem

In Algeria, the High Commission for Amazighity (HCA) has released a Tamazight translation of a book detailing the history of the national anthem, ‘Kassaman’. The publication, authored by researcher Mohamed Lahcen Zeghidi, commemorates the 49th anniversary of the passing of revolutionary poet Moufdi Zakaria. The work traces the genesis of the anthem, which serves as a unifying symbol for the Algerian people and a tribute to the struggle against colonialism.

Separately, General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the Algerian People's National Army, issued a message to military personnel on the National Moudjahid Day. Commemorating August 20, the address highlighted the historical significance of the 1955 North Constantinois offensives and the 1956 Soummam Congress. Chanegriha emphasized the importance of preserving national historical milestones within the collective memory of new generations to honor the sacrifices made for independence and sovereignty.
