Algeria cracks down on transborder drug network, 17 arrested
On 12 July 2026, Algeria’s Gendarmerie National units from the 1st Military Region (Algiers) and the 2nd Military Region (Tlemcen) carried out two coordinated raids against transborder drug‑trafficking networks. The operations resulted in the arrest of 17 suspects and the seizure of more than six quintals (6 000 kg) of processed kif, 35 kg of additional kif, 1 350 psychotropic tablets, five utility vehicles and a motorcycle.
The Ministry of National Defence stated that the actions form part of ongoing efforts by the Army and security services to dismantle organized crime and protect national stability.
