Algeria delivers helicopters and military equipment to Niger

Algeria has delivered a significant military aid package to Niger, marking a step toward strengthened strategic cooperation and regional security. Under instructions from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Algerian Ministry of National Defense transferred four helicopters and various military supplies to the Nigerien Army.

The shipment, which departed from the In Guezzam military base on August 9, 2026, includes two MI-24V MK III ‘Super Hind’ attack helicopters and two MI-171 multi-role helicopters. Accompanying the aircraft via an Algerian Air Force C-130 transport plane were ammunition, spare parts, maintenance supplies, logistical support equipment, and 57 mm unguided rocket launchers.

The MI-24V helicopters feature upgrades including the Hensoldt Argos electro-optical system and the capability to guide Ingwe anti-tank missiles. This operation is intended to enhance stability along the southern border and reaffirm Algeria's commitment to supporting neighboring countries through defense expertise and multifaceted assistance.
