Algeria has deployed a contingent of military aircraft to Niger to support the Nigerien armed forces following a failed military uprising in Niamey on August 28-29, 2026. The deployment, ordered by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, was made in response to a formal request from Nigerien authorities to counter an attempt to destabilize the state.

The aircraft arrived at Diori Hamani International Airport and Air Base 101 in Niamey on August 30. The contingent includes four Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jets, an Il-76 military transport aircraft, and an Il-78 aerial refueling tanker. This operation marks Algeria's first reported overseas military deployment of this type.

Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine attended the arrival ceremony to express gratitude for the strategic support. This move follows a previous delivery of four helicopters—two Mi-171 and two Mi-24 models—to Niger on August 9, signaling a significant strengthening of military cooperation and security ties between Algiers and Niamey in the Sahel region.
