Algeria eyes hosting African weightlifting championships after successful events

The Algerian Weightlifting Federation (FAH) held its annual national technical college meeting in Mostaganem to coordinate the upcoming sports season. The meeting focused on technical and organizational aspects to support the development of weightlifting across the country.

This gathering follows the successful hosting of the African and Arab Weightlifting Championships in Mostaganem, which featured approximately 340 athletes from 29 countries. Algerian athletes achieved significant success during these competitions, securing a total of 122 medals, including 47 gold, 22 silver, and 53 bronze. The Algerian senior team was also crowned Arab champions.

Khaled Mehalhel, president of the African Weightlifting Confederation, praised the organizational efforts and resources provided by Algerian authorities. Consequently, the Confederation is considering requesting Algeria to host next year’s Senior African Championships, which will serve as a qualifying event for the World Championships.
