Algeria implements national artificial intelligence strategy

Algeria's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, chaired a coordination meeting to implement the country's national strategy for artificial intelligence (AI). The meeting included representatives from various ministries and national organizations.

The participants established a roadmap focused on developing sovereign, open-source government AI models and providing high-performance computing capabilities through national centers. The plan aims to support research centers and startups in training AI models locally.

Additional objectives include human resource development through intensive training programs in data analysis and generative AI, the creation of specialized research units, and facilitating the transition from academic research to industrial application. To ensure data security, administrative and public data will be processed and stored within secure national data centers. A joint monitoring commission has been established to oversee the implementation of this roadmap.
