Algeria invests $10 billion in water and transport infrastructure
Algeria is launching major strategic infrastructure projects focused on water security and transport connectivity. The government has allocated over $10 billion (1,469 billion dinars) toward hydraulic projects, including the study of 28 new dams and the construction of six new desalination plants planned by 2030.
To secure water supplies, the country is prioritizing the expansion of networks downstream from new desalination plants in the provinces of Chlef, Mostaganem, and Tlemcen. Additional efforts include 18 large-scale water transfer projects and extensive pipeline networks, such as a 250 km conduit in the south to connect Tanezrouft to the Tizawaten field.
In the transport sector, President Abdelmajid Tebboune has ordered the immediate commencement of the Laghouat-El Meniaa-In Salah-Tamanrasset railway line, starting with construction in Tamanrasset. Furthermore, the government is accelerating the development of a phosphate terminal at the port of Annaba to enhance regional and Mediterranean trade capacity.
