France faces record heatwave with 40°C temperatures and wildfire risks

France is currently facing its third longest heatwave on record, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius in cities such as Tours and Carcassonne. Météo-France has maintained an orange heatwave alert for 83 departments across the country.

The extreme heat is accompanied by a severe drought and an increased risk of wildfires, notably in the Landes region. This environmental situation has also led to air quality concerns; Atmo Occitanie has warned of PM10 particulate pollution in the Gers, Haute Garonne, Tarn, and Tarn-et-Garonne departments due to ongoing fires in the Landes.
