Algeria launches massive 2026-2027 reforestation campaign
The General Directorate of Forests (DGF) has launched the 2026-2027 national reforestation campaign under the theme ‘Together, let us restore our forests.’ The initiative aims to plant 38.8 million trees—including forest, fruit, and forage species—across a total area of 47,917 hectares.
A significant portion of this effort, covering 34,318 hectares and involving 27.45 million plants, is dedicated to the Green Dam project. This project seeks to combat desertification and restore ecosystems, particularly in areas damaged by recent wildfires.
The campaign will be implemented nationwide through public and private entities, such as the Public Rural Engineering Group. It also includes educational outreach in schools to promote environmental preservation and forest restoration.
