Algeria launches national energy agency ANMEEE

An executive decree (No. 26268) issued on 23 July 2026 created the Agence nationale pour la maîtrise de l’énergie et l’efficacité énergétique (ANMEEE). The new public industrial‑commercial establishment merges the former Agency for the Promotion and Rationalisation of Energy Use (APRUE) and the Commission for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (CEREFE) under the supervision of the Algerian Ministry of Energy, with its headquarters in Algiers.

ANMEEE is tasked with implementing Algeria’s national energy‑mastery strategy through 2035, promoting renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, conducting technical‑economic studies, auditing buildings and industry, maintaining energy‑consumption databases, and supporting local authorities and private projects. The decree also allows the agency to enter contracts, create subsidiaries and partner with national and foreign institutions. The launch coincided with a visit by Nigeria’s foreign‑ministerial secretary general, Ahmed Dunoma Umar, and a ceremony led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune honoring army retirees and families of martyrs.
