Algeria mandates CAGEX insurance for specific export transactions
Algeria has introduced new regulatory requirements for non-hydrocarbon exporters to better manage strategic trade activities. These measures, established by the Bank of Algeria, aim to combat under-invoicing and ensure the repatriation of foreign currency from international sales.
Under the new rules, exporters must obtain insurance from the Compagnie algérienne d’assurance et de garantie des exportations (CAGEX) for any transaction where the payment period granted to a non-resident client exceeds 120 days, up to a maximum limit of 180 days. This obligation also extends to the financing of export operations.
For transactions with payment terms of less than 120 days, insurance through CAGEX remains optional. The company stated it will continue to provide coverage for these shorter durations while offering technical support and credit risk management to help secure international exchanges.
