Algeria mineral water prices rise modestly amid packaging cost surge
The Association of Algerian Beverage Producers (APAB) and the beverage group Ifri announced a limited price adjustment of 2 dinars (TTC) per 1.5‑litre bottle of mineral water in August. Both organisations attribute the increase to a sharp rise in international raw‑material costs for packaging: PET resin prices jumped about 45 % and HDPE for caps rose roughly 33 %. Packaging accounts for around 43 % of the product’s cost structure. Despite these higher input costs, producers say they have deliberately restrained the price pass‑through to protect consumer purchasing power during the summer peak demand. Ifri also recommended that distributors set a consumer price for six bottles between 240 and 250 dinars, aiming to curb speculation. The announcements responded to social‑media concerns over perceived excessive price hikes.
