Algeria mourns passing of revolutionary figure Ali Haroun

Ali Haroun, a prominent figure of the Algerian Revolution and former statesman, has passed away at the age of 99.

During the struggle for independence, Haroun was a key member of the National Liberation Front (FLN) in France, where he managed political and media affairs. He played a significant role in internationalizing the Algerian cause and participated in the negotiations that led to the Evian Accords and the ceasefire. As a lawyer, he also defended Algerian militants and resistance members in colonial courts.

Following independence, Haroun served as a deputy in the first Constituent National Assembly. His later political career included serving as the Minister Delegate for Human Rights in 1991 and as a member of the High State Council (HCE) from 1992 to 1994.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Minister of Moudjahidine Abdelmalek Tacherift have both expressed their condolences, honoring his legacy as a dedicated activist and intellectual.
