Algeria President Tebboune chairs cabinet meeting on infrastructure and wildfire relief
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired a meeting of the Algerian Cabinet to discuss several key national issues, including a draft penal code and preparations for the 2026–2027 school year.
The President reviewed the progress of strategic infrastructure projects, specifically the mining railway line from Blad El Hadba to Oued El Kebrit, the expansion of the Annaba port via a mining pier project, and the railway line connecting El Menia, In Salah, and Tamanrasset.
Following recent wildfires, President Tebboune praised the national solidarity shown by citizens and workers from various sectors, including civil protection, Sonelgaz, and Mobilis, for restoring essential services like electricity, water, and internet. He ordered that compensation payments for those affected by the fires begin this week, emphasizing the need to minimize bureaucratic hurdles for citizens. Additionally, the Minister of Agriculture was instructed to oversee immediate compensation for the agricultural sector, particularly regarding livestock.
To bolster the national economy, the President directed the government to involve domestic companies more effectively in increasing production to meet the requirements of major infrastructure projects, aiming to reduce reliance on unplanned imports.
