Algeria cabinet reshuffle High Security Council drug trafficking combat Tanezrouft prison forest fire investigations

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has implemented a partial cabinet reshuffle and announced major security measures following a meeting of the High Security Council. The reshuffle includes the appointment of Mohamed Lamine Lebbou as Minister of Finance, Mohamed Hattab as Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Security, Sid Ali Khaldi as Minister of Agriculture, and Mohamed Bouslimani as Minister of Communication.

To combat drug trafficking, the government will create a specialized security agency modeled after international structures like the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Additionally, an Army National People (ANP) barracks in the remote Tanezrouft region of the Sahara will be converted into a high-security prison specifically for drug barons and traffickers.

Regarding recent forest fires in the east and center of the country, the Council is monitoring ongoing investigations by the Gendarmerie and National Security services. The Council emphasized the necessity of applying the death penalty for those found responsible for arson-related crimes. Authorities are also working to assess agricultural damage and support affected families in regions such as Jijel and Bouira.
