Algeria: President Tebboune meets economic operators to discuss growth

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune is meeting with economic operators and private sector representatives at the Abdelatif-Rahal International Conference Center in Algiers. Initiated by the Conseil du renouveau économique algérien (CREA), this third meeting aims to define economic priorities and strengthen the role of the private sector in national development.

The discussions occur amid preparations for the 2027 finance law, which focuses on consolidating economic growth, accelerating diversification, and supporting productive investment. Algeria aims to reach a GDP of $400 billion by late 2026 or early 2027.

President Tebboune noted that annual growth is projected to be between 4.01% and 4.02%, exceeding the International Monetary Fund's forecast of 3.8%. Key strategic levers to reduce dependence on hydrocarbons include the automotive industry, mining, and the local manufacturing of electronic chips and electrical equipment. These sectors are expected to help secure an annual foreign currency income of at least $50 billion.
