Algeria: President Tebboune rejects claims of unprecedented food price hikes

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has criticized statements made by Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud regarding the sharp rise in vegetable and fruit prices. Responding to Sayoud’s claim that current market prices are unprecedented in 60 years, Tebboune described the remarks as “unacceptable” and argued that such price fluctuations have occurred in Algeria’s past.

The President rejected the notion that farmers are responsible for the inflation, instead attributing the price hikes to greed and market speculation. He directed the government to take action against speculators to stabilize the market and support the agricultural sector.
