Algeria: President Tebboune reshuffles local administrative leadership
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has signed a decree implementing a significant administrative reshuffle involving walis, delegated walis, and provincial secretaries-general. The move, conducted under Article 92 of the Constitution, aims to reorganize local administration following the recent creation of 11 new wilayas, bringing the total number of provinces to 69.
The reshuffle includes the appointment of ten new walis, primarily in territories established through the latest administrative division. Notable appointments include Abdelwahab Bertima in Tiaret, Nasser Zouggari in El Kantara, and Djamel Boudjedza in Bir El Ater. Additionally, Nadir Beteïn has been designated as the delegated wali for the Baraki administrative district in Algiers.
In addition to the wali appointments, fifteen individuals have been installed as secretaries-general for various wilayas, including positions in Sétif, Saïda, and Annaba. The restructuring also includes several terminations of functions and retirements. The selection process appears to prioritize experienced administrative cadres to manage the material, budgetary, and human resource requirements of the newly formed provinces.
