Algeria ranks 83rd worldwide and 6th in Africa in the 2026 Legatum Prosperity Index

The 2026 Legatum Prosperity Index, which evaluates 161 countries across development, freedom and societal cohesion, placed Algeria at 83rd globally and sixth among African nations. The index’s new “p‑averaging” methodology prevents strong performance in one pillar from masking weaknesses in others, offering a more balanced assessment.

Algeria’s detailed scores show it at 85th in the development pillar, 111th in freedom and 64th in society. Within the ten sub‑pillars, the country ranked 82nd for standard of living, 89th for health, 112th for education, 87th for civil peace, 122nd for freedom of expression, 114th for economic freedom, 60th for family integrity, 81st for community integrity, 58th for societal integrity and 73rd for state integrity.
