Algeria reaches 4 million fiber optic subscriptions
Algeria has reached a milestone of 4 million fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) subscriptions, marking a significant expansion of the nation's digital infrastructure. According to Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sid Ali Zerrouki, the number of fiber subscriptions has increased more than 75-fold in six years, rising from just 53,000 in June 2020 to the current 4 million mark in October 2026.
This growth has been accompanied by a 76% reduction in costs. The monthly subscription fee for a 100 Mbps connection has dropped from 9,999 DA in 2020 to 2,400 DA today. The rapid deployment was particularly notable in the first nine months of 2026, during which 1.4 million new households were connected.
The government aims to reach 4.4 million subscriptions by the end of 2026 and plans to connect an additional 300,000 households in the first quarter of 2027 as part of a strategy to phase out older copper networks. Officials stated that this infrastructure serves as a foundation for digital public services, economic diversification, and digital sovereignty.
