Algeria reports 45 road deaths and numerous emergencies in one week

In Algeria, the Civil Protection reported that 45 people died and 1,830 others were injured in 1,451 road accidents between August 23 and August 29, 2026. The highest number of fatalities occurred in the Tiaret province, which recorded 6 deaths and 33 injuries across 18 accidents.

During the same period, emergency services conducted 7,481 beach surveillance interventions, saving 5,543 people from drowning, though 7 deaths by drowning were reported. Additionally, responders extinguished 3,861 urban fires, with the highest concentrations in Sétif, Algiers, and Skikda, alongside 761 forest and crop fires.
