Algeria restores Roblox access under strict safety conditions

Algeria has restored access to the gaming platform Roblox following a 13-month ban that began in September 2025. However, the platform's chat functionality remains disabled for Algerian users.

According to the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, the reactivation is subject to strict child safety and moderation requirements. Roblox has agreed to strengthen age estimation systems, enhance parental controls to monitor playtime and spending, and improve moderation for Arabic and Algerian Darija. The chat feature will only be reinstated once the company implements moderation mechanisms and technical safeguards that meet national and regulatory standards.

As part of a preliminary agreement, Roblox also plans to provide training for local creators to develop skills in video game design and development, aiming to help them enter the international market. While the framework for this training exists, specific details regarding the schedule and funding have not yet been announced. The Algerian government is also engaging with other major platforms, such as PUBG MOBILE and Fortnite, as part of a broader effort to increase oversight of online gaming and protect children from inappropriate content.
