Algeria restores vital infrastructure following wildfires

Algeria is undergoing extensive infrastructure rehabilitation following recent wildfires that impacted several provinces, including Jijel, Béjaïa, Tizi Ouzou, and Skikda. Authorities report that essential services such as water, electricity, telecommunications, and road networks are being restored to ensure normal life resumes in the affected regions.

In the water sector, Minister of Hydraulics Lounès Bouzegza announced that approximately 149 km of drinking water networks were repaired within five days. This included 122 km in Jijel and 24 km in Béjaïa. The operation involved 85 teams from Algérienne des Eaux (ADE), totaling over 480 agents, and 25 mobile laboratories to monitor water quality. Additionally, 17 damaged infrastructures, including cables and transformers, were brought back into service.

Road rehabilitation efforts are also underway, particularly in the Jijel province. The Ministry of Public Works has deployed over 600 agents and 100 machines to clear debris, trees, and earth from approximately 95 km of roads, including national routes 43 and 77. These works include repairing vertical signaling, renewing horizontal road markings, and reinforcing embankments to prevent landslides during upcoming rainy seasons.
