Algeria seeks WHO prequalification to boost pharmaceutical exports

Algerian pharmaceutical companies are pursuing World Health Organization (WHO) prequalification to expand their presence in international markets, particularly within Africa. During a training session in Algiers, Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry Wassim Kouidri emphasized that this process is a strategic choice to prove that Algerian products meet the strictest international standards for quality, efficacy, and safety.

WHO representative Phanuel Habimana praised Algeria’s progress in strengthening health autonomy and ensuring sustainable access to safe and affordable medicines. The prequalification process involves rigorous evaluations of technical dossiers, manufacturing sites, clinical data, and bioequivalence studies to determine if products are suitable for large-scale international procurement.

Adherence to these standards is expected to enhance the credibility of the national industry, increase production capacities, and develop technical and regulatory expertise in line with international best practices.
