Algeria sees rising oil production and Chinese car imports

Algeria is experiencing significant growth in both its energy production and automotive import sectors. According to OPEC monthly reports, the country's oil production reached 995,000 barrels per day in July 2026, marking its fourth consecutive month of increases and its highest level since April 2023. Production is projected to surpass the one million barrels per day threshold in August 2026, aligning with OPEC+ plans to gradually phase out voluntary production cuts.

Simultaneously, Algeria has emerged as a major global destination for Chinese vehicles. During the first half of 2026, the country imported 143,012 Chinese vehicles, representing a substantial increase compared to the 100,382 units imported during the same period in 2025. This surge places Algeria among the top ten global recipients of Chinese automotive exports.
