Algeria to begin Laghouat–El Meniaa railway construction in September

Preparations for the Laghouat–Ghardaïa–El Meniaa railway line are entering a decisive phase, with construction scheduled to begin in September. During a recent interministerial commission meeting chaired by Minister of Public Works Abdelkader Djellaoui, officials validated the progress of the project and discussed measures to mitigate technical and administrative constraints.

The 495 km strategic section is part of the larger Algiers–Tamanrasset axis and is funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB). Technical studies for the new route have been 100% completed by national design offices.

The meeting involved representatives from various ministries, including Finance, Interior, Transport, Agriculture, and Energy, to ensure coordinated efforts between local authorities and national agencies. Discussions focused on streamlining operations for the Ouargla–El Meniaa and El Meniaa–Aïn Salah–Tamanrasset sections to ensure the project stays on schedule.
