Algeria to Boost Gas Supplies to Germany from 2027
Algerian state oil company Sonatrach and German energy firm VNG signed a new gas supply agreement in Berlin during President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's visit. The contract will increase gas deliveries to Germany beginning on 1 January 2027, though volumes, price and duration were not disclosed.
The deal also expands cooperation into green hydrogen, linking the Algerian‑European Hydrogen Alliance and the planned SouthH2 corridor that would transport hydrogen from North Africa to Central Europe. The timing coincides with the EU’s ban on long‑term Russian LNG contracts that takes effect on the same date, positioning Algerian gas as part of Germany’s broader effort to diversify energy sources away from Russia.
