Algeria to experience significant internet disruptions

The Algerian Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications has announced that significant internet service disruptions are expected starting at 20:00 on Monday, October 26, 2026, lasting until 04:00 on Tuesday, October 27.

The disruptions are due to maintenance work on the submarine cable connecting Algeria to Spain. The ministry noted that these works are being conducted outside of national territory on infrastructure shared by several international operators, meaning the authorities have no control over the schedule.

To mitigate the impact, Algérie Télécom and ministry services are monitoring the operation to ensure a gradual restoration of service. This follows previous sporadic connectivity issues in Algiers and a separate unplanned maintenance incident on October 11.
