Algeria to implement new methane emission monitoring system

Algeria is developing a national tool to detect, measure, and reduce methane emissions. The initiative was reviewed during a government meeting led by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb.

The measure aims to strengthen emission monitoring and coordination across various sectors. According to the Algerian government, controlling methane is a strategic priority to meet international climate commitments, preserve energy resources, and maintain the competitiveness of exports in global markets. The plan also seeks to help national economic operators comply with international greenhouse gas reduction requirements.

Additionally, the government discussed preparations for the railway line to Tamanrasset, with the goal of completing the project by the end of 2028.
