Algeria to receive 35,000 US heifers for Baladna project

The Baladna Algeria project, a strategic partnership between Algeria and Qatar, is set to begin its operational phase with the arrival of approximately 35,000 high-potential heifers from the United States. The first shipment is scheduled to arrive at Adrar airport via cargo flights on November 25.

This initiative aims to develop a massive integrated agro-industrial complex covering over 117,000 hectares in southern Algeria. The long-term goal is to establish a herd of 250,000 cattle to boost national milk powder production and meet local market demands.

Algerian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sid Ali Khaldi, recently inspected specialized sanitary rest facilities at Adrar airport to ensure logistical and veterinary readiness. These facilities are designed to minimize animal stress and facilitate regulatory health checks. Following their arrival, the cattle are expected to undergo a 36-hour rest period before being transferred to the farm on November 27.
