Algeria updates passport fees and stamp duty regulations

The Algerian government has introduced new regulations regarding passport issuance for citizens living abroad. According to a ministerial decree published on August 29, the calculation of stamp duties for passports issued at consulates will be modernized.

Under the 2026 finance law, the cost of stamp duties in foreign currency will be determined annually based on conversion rates provided by the Bank of Algeria. These rates must be communicated to the Minister of Foreign Affairs by January 7 each year. These adjustments apply immediately to all diplomatic and consular representations.

For domestic applications in dinars, the 2026 finance law sets the cost of a standard 28-page passport at 6,000 DA and a 48-page passport at 9,000 DA. Expedited processing options are available at higher costs: 25,000 DA for 28-page models and 45,000 DA for 48-page models. Reductions are available for students and minors, with standard processing fees reduced to 3,000 DA and 4,500 DA respectively.
