Morocco women beat Kenya 4‑0 in WAFCON 2026 opener

The Morocco women’s national team opened the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a 4‑0 victory over Kenya at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat. Goals came from Sakina Ouzraoui (19'), Maryame Atiq (28') and Ibtissam Jraidi, who scored twice (32' and 47'). The win gave the hosts the top spot in Group A on goal‑difference ahead of Algeria.

Kenya’s heavy defeat meant a promised Ksh 10 million reward from President William Ruto for beating the hosts was not paid. The tournament, hosted by Morocco, offers a US$2 million prize to the eventual champions and marks the first appearance of Kenya in a decade.

Morocco’s dominant performance was praised for its attacking fluency and defensive solidity, setting an early benchmark for the rest of the competition.
