Algeria football federation ends contract with coach Vladimir Petković

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) announced on 3 August 2026 that it has terminated the contract of head coach Vladimir Petković and his technical staff by mutual agreement. The termination ends a contract that had been extended to July 2028 and provides each of the four officials a severance equal to three months’ salary.

Petković’s departure follows Algeria’s elimination in the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the team lost 2‑0 to Switzerland. The federation said the decision was taken to allow a fresh start and immediately began a search for a successor, with a Spanish‑trained coach emerging as the leading candidate.

Media reports also noted that the Saudi Football Federation is reportedly interested in appointing Petković as its next national‑team manager, although no agreement has been confirmed.
