Algerian football stars rally support after devastating wildfires

Algerian football stars, led by former captain Riyad Mahrez, have expressed solidarity with victims of devastating wildfires that have struck several provinces, including the Jijel region. The fires have caused significant human casualties and extensive material and forest damage.

In response to the tragedy, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has declared three days of national mourning. The disaster has also impacted the sporting calendar, with the Algerian Football Federation deciding to postpone the first day of the professional Ligue 1, originally scheduled for August 27, 28, and 29.

Several international players, including Youcef Belaïli, Baghdad Bounedjah, Rami Bensebaini, Nabil Bentaleb, and Luca Zidane, have used social media to offer condolences and support to the affected families and communities.
