Algerian Gendarmerie seeks suspect in UAE-to-Algeria car import scam

The National Gendarmerie of Tizi Ouzou has issued a public appeal for witnesses regarding a major vehicle importation fraud scheme. Authorities are searching for an individual identified by the initials T. A., who is suspected of orchestrating a scam involving the sale and shipment of vehicles from the United Arab Emirates to Algeria.

The suspect reportedly used WhatsApp to contact victims, utilizing a UAE-based phone number (+971555781337). According to investigators, the perpetrator would pose as an intermediary capable of importing Gulf-region vehicles, offering attractive prices to build trust. Once victims transferred advance payments, the suspect would cease all communication.

This type of fraud has reportedly increased following the relaxation of regulations regarding the importation of used vehicles in Algeria. Criminal networks have exploited these changes by using social media to promote fictitious agencies and fraudulent documentation for vehicles under three years old. The Gendarmerie is encouraging all victims and witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation.
