Algerian insurance market reports 1.5 million pending claims

The Algerian insurance market recorded a turnover of 102.8 billion dinars in the first half of 2026, representing a 3% increase compared to the same period in 2025. According to provisional data from the National Insurance Council (CNA), the market saw 4,918,050 policies subscribed by the end of June 2026.

Despite the growth in turnover, the industry faces a significant backlog of claims. As of June 30, 2026, there were 1,566,293 pending claim files with an estimated value of 132.8 billion dinars, a figure that exceeds the total turnover for the semester. The settlement rate for these claims stands at 24.9% by value and 32.8% by number of files.

The automobile sector accounts for the vast majority of pending files, with 1,439,578 cases totaling 50.2 billion dinars. Conversely, while Fire and Miscellaneous Risks (IRD) accounts for fewer files, it represents the highest financial weight, totaling 68.7 billion dinars, or approximately 54.1% of the total claim value.
