Algerian Justice Minister calls for judicial firmness in Oran

Algerian Justice Minister Lotfi Boudjemâa has called for increased firmness in judicial responses to crimes that threaten public security and social health, particularly drug trafficking involving cocaine and heroin. During a working visit to Oran, the Minister emphasized that the protection of human life and property is an absolute priority.

Addressing the death penalty, Boudjemâa stated that its implementation follows presidential instructions from Abdelmadjid Tebboune and must strictly adhere to legal provisions, including the rights of the defense and established judicial procedures. He also noted a proposed modification to the penal code, which aims to toughen sanctions for serious crimes such as arson, kidnapping, and the assault of children, with penalties potentially reaching the death penalty.

The visit also included the inauguration of the Gdyel court and the Bir El-Djir court, as well as an inspection of a new prison project capable of holding 1,000 inmates.
