Algerian Parliament opens 2026/2027 session with focus on wildfire prevention

Azouz Nasri, President of the Council of the Nation, has outlined key priorities for the 2026/2027 ordinary parliamentary session. A central focus of the session will be strengthening the legislative framework regarding wildfire prevention, following devastating summer fires in several provinces. Nasri emphasized the need to transform the recent experience into a ‘national lesson’ through more effective prevention mechanisms and supported the government’s proposed legal measures.

Other major priorities include preparing for upcoming local elections, which are described as a major national and democratic milestone, and defending national sovereignty against foreign interference. Nasri also called for enhanced cooperation between the two chambers of Parliament and the government to ensure a unified legislative action.
