Algerian President Tebboune outlines policy agenda in televised interview

In a televised periodic interview, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced a new increase in salaries, pensions and the guaranteed minimum wage to begin in 2027, stressing that it will be managed to avoid fueling inflation. He pledged personal oversight of a survivor of the tragic fire at the Mohammadia children’s home, promising comprehensive long‑term support.

The president affirmed Algeria’s commitment to never harm its neighbours and warned that anyone who tries to use terrorism against Tunisia would be destroyed. He denied ever requesting a visa quota from France, stating he has never spoken to the French president on the matter. Tebboune also called for a revision of the Algeria‑EU association agreement to reflect the country’s diversified economy and highlighted the need to expand market access for Algerian products.

Further, he urged the Algerian diaspora to increase investment and share expertise to aid national development, and expressed strong support for the national football team, cautioning against any abrupt changes that could cause a “break” in its progress.
