Algerian President Tebboune to visit Spain in October

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune is scheduled to visit Spain at the end of October following an invitation from President Pedro Sánchez. This visit marks the first time an Algerian head of state has traveled to Spain in 16 years.

During the trip, Tebboune is expected to lead an Algerian ministerial delegation to Madrid for a High-Level Meeting. In an unusual diplomatic configuration, Tebboune will co-preside over the summit alongside Sánchez, rather than the meeting being led solely by prime ministers. The visit is also expected to include an audience with King Felipe VI.

The rapprochement between Madrid and Algiers occurs amid heightened regional tensions involving Morocco, particularly following migration crises in Ceuta. The diplomatic shift is seen as part of a broader realignment in the Maghreb region as Spain seeks to strengthen ties with Algeria.
