Algerian Prime Minister attends Mediterranean Games opening in Italy

Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb arrived in Taranto, Italy, to represent President Abdelmadjid Tebboune at the opening ceremony of the 20th Mediterranean Games. Accompanied by Sports Minister Walid Sadi, Ghrieb was received at the Taranto-Grottaglie airport by the Algerian Ambassador to Italy, Mohamed Khelif.

The games, which run from August 21 to September 3, feature 26 national Olympic committees. Algeria is participating with a delegation of 248 athletes—comprising 151 men and 97 women—competing across 27 disciplines. The total delegation includes 76 officials, coaches, and referees, totaling 334 people.

This official presence is intended to provide an institutional dimension to Algeria's participation, aiming to strengthen Mediterranean cooperation and regional ties through sport. Following the 2022 games in Oran, Algeria seeks to maintain its competitive standing in the international arena.
