Algerian Prime Minister Inaugurates New Brake‑Pad Factory in Reghaïa

On 5 August, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb presided over the inauguration of a brake‑pad manufacturing plant in the Reghaïa industrial zone near Algiers. The facility, a subsidiary of the Société de maintenance de l’Est (SME) under the Groupe industriel des ciments d’Algérie (GICA), can produce up to 1.5 million brake pads annually across 153 models for cars, trucks, tractors and other vehicles.

The project, driven by a presidential directive to recycle assets seized in corruption cases, is expected to create more than 150 jobs, including 60 direct positions. Ministers of the Interior, Industry and Finance attended the ceremony, emphasizing the plant’s role in meeting domestic automotive demand, reducing imports and opening export opportunities.
