Algerians become top foreign real estate buyers in Alicante

Algerian nationals have emerged as the leading foreign group purchasing real estate in the city of Alicante, Spain. According to data from the General Council of Notaries, Algerians completed 104 transactions in the first quarter of 2026, surpassing buyers from Ukraine, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom.

This trend follows a significant presence in 2025, when Algerian buyers recorded 439 purchases in the municipality. Unlike Northern European buyers who typically focus on high-end coastal villas and secondary residences, Algerian acquisitions are concentrated in the accessible urban market. These purchases primarily consist of older apartments in popular or peripheral neighborhoods such as Carolinas, Virgen del Remedio, Altozano, and areas near Plaza de Argel.

Typical acquisition budgets for these properties, which generally range from 75 to 80 square meters, are estimated between 85,000 and 125,000 euros. While foreign real estate transactions across Spain saw a 13% decrease in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year, the average price for properties bought by foreigners rose by 9.4% to 2,644 euros per square meter.
