Algeria's €750 Tourist Allowance Explained by National Bank

Algeria’s National Bank (BNA) has clarified the operation of the state‑funded tourist allowance, which is now credited exclusively to an international bank card.

Each adult traveler receives €750, while children aged 12‑19 are allotted €300, capped at two children per household. Adult students also qualify for the full €750. The allowance cannot be withdrawn as cash in Algeria and must be used for expenses incurred abroad.

The bank provided practical examples: a couple with two minor children sees the father’s card loaded with €1,350 (his €750 plus €600 for the children) and the mother’s card with €750. In a family with a 14‑year‑old and a 20‑year‑old student, the father’s card holds €1,050, while the mother and the student each receive €750.

To load the card, travellers must present a travel ticket or reservation, a valid passport (and visa if required), proof of the household head’s income, the international card, a family record, and the passports of any children. Holders of existing Visa Classic or Signature cards do not need a new card; loading can occur up to seven days before departure.
