Algeria's CPA launches travel‑specific VISA card
The Crédit Populaire d'Algérie (CPA) announced the launch of the CPA VISA Classique, an international Visa card dedicated to the right‑to‑exchange travel allocation. The product is reserved for Algerian travelers and allows payments and cash withdrawals abroad through the Visa network.
The card is tied exclusively to the amount granted under the travel allocation and does not require a minimum balance on the foreign‑currency account. Holders must maintain at least 10,000 DA in a dinar account to cover the annual fee of 3,000 DA and any commissions. All transactions made with the card are debited solely from the dedicated foreign‑currency account.
CPA reassured owners of existing CPA Visa and Mastercard cards that exchange services will continue unchanged. The new offering follows a ministerial decision to channel travel allocations through bank cards to curb misuse by speculators and travel agencies, aiming to improve transparency and direct the benefit to rightful recipients.
