Algeria's gas output climbs for fifth consecutive month in May 2026

Algeria's natural‑gas production rose to 8.342 billion cubic metres in May 2026, a 6 % increase over the same month a year earlier and marking the fifth month of consecutive growth. Cumulative output for the first five months of the year reached 45.841 billion cubic metres, 5 % higher than the comparable period in 2025.

Exports also expanded, totalising 4.528 billion cubic metres in May – an 11.4 % year‑on‑year rise. Pipeline deliveries accounted for 3.209 billion cubic metres, while liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments grew to 1.320 billion cubic metres. Domestic consumption rose modestly by 1.1 % to 3.526 billion cubic metres, driven mainly by power‑generation plants that rely on gas for 99 % of Algeria's electricity.

The upward trend reinforces Algeria's role as a key supplier to European markets, particularly Spain, and reflects continued efforts to boost production capacity.
