Algeria's President Tebboune vows health self‑sufficiency and deepens Tunisia partnership for African markets

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced a new health policy aimed at ending the practice of sending Algerian patients abroad for treatment. Speaking on Independence Day, he highlighted the inauguration of an 80‑bed, fully digital pediatric cardiology hospital in Algiers and said the goal is "zero Algerian patient abroad" as a matter of national honour. The plan calls for modernising facilities, training staff and acquiring advanced equipment to achieve full medical autonomy.

In a separate diplomatic meeting, Tebboune received Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti in Algiers. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen cooperation across security, transport, ICT, water, energy, food security and trade. They signed a roadmap to facilitate joint access for Algerian and Tunisian firms to African markets and to improve conditions for workers and investors from both countries.
