Algeria's Sid Ali Zerrouki joins UN AI governance dialogue in Geneva

Algerian Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sid Ali Zerrouki led a high‑level delegation to the first Global Dialogue on the Governance of Artificial Intelligence, convened by the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. He stressed that AI is no longer merely a technological issue but a matter of development and sovereign interest, urging an inclusive and equitable governance framework that enables developing countries to participate in AI design rather than just consume the technology.

The dialogue, attended by representatives from more than a hundred nations, featured remarks from UN Secretary‑General António Guterres, who called for a worldwide AI governance structure, reduced digital divides, stronger international coordination, and responsible, ethical use of AI. He highlighted the need for capacity‑building, technology transfer, and knowledge‑sharing to empower developing states in shaping AI systems.

Algeria’s participation aligns with its commitment to contribute to an international AI governance system that supports sustainable development, preserves state sovereignty, and serves the common interests of the global community.
