Algeria's Sonelgaz urges unplugging devices to cut electricity bills by up to 10%

The state-owned utility Sonelgaz has quantified the impact of standby or "phantom" power consumption in Algerian homes. Devices such as televisions, set‑top boxes, computers and chargers continue to draw electricity even when switched off but left plugged in. Sonelgaz estimates that unplugging these appliances, or using power strips with switches, can reduce a household’s monthly electricity bill by as much as 10%.

The advice is part of an ongoing eco‑responsibility campaign aimed at lowering household expenses and easing the load on the national grid, especially during periods of high demand when the risk of widespread outages rises.
