Alghero Airport faces marginalization risks, calls for regional takeover
Michele Pais, a Lega councilor and former president of the Sardinian Regional Council, has called on the Sardinia Region to consider reacquiring Alghero Airport to prevent it from becoming a marginal, seasonal facility. Pais warns that the current trajectory, driven by private management interests, threatens the airport's strategic importance.
Key concerns include the reduction of essential territorial continuity flights between Alghero and Rome, which have dropped from four to three daily flights. Additionally, booking issues for Milan connections and potential service gaps starting February 2027 have been highlighted. Pais also criticized proposals to establish bus links between Alghero, Sassari, and Olbia airport, suggesting such moves would systematically divert traffic from weaker hubs to stronger ones under the same private ownership.
